pakilia means ‘To give joy‘

We are a young company and export fair trade silver jewelry from Mexico to Germany. We work closely with our artisans in Mexico, who craft the jewelry pieces by hand, and accompany them towards a future with more financial safety and independence. We are regularly in Taxco on-site as well, in order to buy the jewelry directly from the silversmiths. Thanks to our permanent presence in both countries, we are always very close to both sides as well, on the one side to the artesanos in Taxco and on the other to our clients in Europe.

Our concept

Our two founders Julia Maier and Miriam Müller lead our team in both countries: Julia lives in Mexico and manages our Project and Purchase Team, and in Germany we have Miriam working together with our colleagues Melly Baumann and Leonie Heinicke in the sales and distribution department. We all have spent half of our business management studies in Mexico. We run our online store and cooperate with fair-trade shops & eco-fair boutiques resellers. We participate in several markets and fairs, and we organize the "Mexiko-Schmuck-Abende" (Mexican Jewelry Nights), that way we bring Mexico and pakilia closer to our customers comfortably to their homes. Thanks to our many sales channels, we are able to reach a broad audience and are therefore not bound to a certain place. pakilia is an official and recognised supplier of the Deutsche Weltladen Dachverband (Umbrella organisation for the German fair-trade shops) and is a member of the FairBand – the German Federation for fair Import and Export.

Our work in Mexico

The idea behind pakilia was developed by Julia during her studies in Mexico, but the bedrock of the foundation was placed in the Summer of 2012. At the moment, we are working with 20 artisan-families – with whom we already established trustfull and professional partnerships. Monthly visits to the artesanos and the encounters with them at eye level are the pakilia’s standards. We support our collaborative families continuously through pre-financing and administrative assistance. It is self-evident to us to provide them advice free of charge regarding the domains of social security, export, quality and cost accounting. We work together for better quality and new products - also thanks to our customers!

Our products

Each family brings their own style and models to the company. Thereby we can offer a wide range of products counting up to 450 necklaces and pendants, earrings and studs, bracelets and rings. Besides working with 925er sterling silver, our artisans also manipulate cultured pearls from freshwater and natural stones from Mexico. By working together with the silversmiths, we are also able to provide custom-made products and special enquiries to our customers. We always welcome small enquiries from other companies, clubs etc. as well!

Working conditions

In Taxco, a city located in the mountains where the families who collaborate with us live and work, is where the artisan Bety takes care of the purchasing and the operative collaboration. She updates us on a daily basis. Every 4 to 6 weeks, Julia personally comes there and at least once a year Melly, Leonie or Miriam come as well. During our visits we do not only get the chance to look behind the scenes of production, but also within the family environment. We know their struggles and their living conditions and can therefore support them systematically and individually. We work on the improvement of their occupational safety in the workshops by raising awareness among the families about this important subject and by supporting them with the proper equipment (e.g. protective goggles and face masks).
